Coordinators develop study abroad programs and both recruit and prepare students to live and study in another country. The position is often administrative, with tasks related to program and project management.

While there is no standard educational background for a study abroad coordinator, a bachelor’s degree is usually required. A master’s degree in an area such as international education is increasingly preferred. Experience living and working abroad is usually necessary and the ability to speak a foreign language might be desired.

Study abroad coordinators should have strong written and oral communication skills and enjoy working with a variety of people. Coordinators often work with students to help them research and choose where to study abroad and which programs will best suit their academic goals.
